Medallions and inserts

Now, about this time, I took a look around the house, and realized that I could really use this new found talent of mine.  For instance, the rear entrance could use a little work.

   so I made this,

....and I made a few things like this.

And I had always wanted an infinity light, so I made one.  Then it turned out everybody wanted one, so I made about ten more.

....then I tackled a clock.  Now, it may have a lot more angles, but it's still basically straight cuts.

But it was time to get a little fancy.....so I made this Tape Caddie.  756 pieces of wood reassembled to hold 96 tapes.  It make look complicated, but it's simply a matter of cutting wood at angles.

Then it was time to make a place for my granddaughter's American girl dolls to sleep.

Cutting in other than a straight line got good to me at this point, so I made this bowl for Joy.  Now, it may look turned on a lathe, but I made this bad boy by cutting each piece individually with a jig saw and assembling the pieces.

But that doesn't mean I had given up on the straight lines....far from it.  I made this as a birthday gift for a friend.

.....look like this!

....and this.

Now notice, I'm still just working with straight lines.

Then a wine rack as a gift.

....and so are these!

...and after investing nearly 80 hours in a piece like this, somebody will offer you $200.00 for it.  I'd rather burn it.  Or better yet, admire it loud enough and I'll give it to you.

But I began tiring of straight lines.....time to spread my wings.  So I made this for Lindsey's seventh birthday.

And that was such a hit, I made another for Erica.

And Joy's turned out so well, I made another for Lori.

And this little jewelry box for another friend.

Now, it may look like you'd have to spend an awful lot of time in the shop to produce items like the above, but actually, I probably spent less than an hour a day working on them.  If you put 25 to 30 hours into each, you end up with 10 to 12 beautiful works of art every year, and after a few years, it begins adding up.
